We held our Spring Dinner at the Bankers Club on March 1, 2003. The pre-dinner pragrams included fortune telling conducted by Mak So; investment advice hosted by Jamie Sih and the sale of flowers and badges for fund-raising purposes.
Tony Lit and Pam Mak hosted wine tasting, sponsored by Sinolink Fine Wine Ltd.
Our Chairman, T.T. Yuen, gave his welcome speech followed by Mr. David McNamara, Senior Trade Commissioner and Mr. Gao Wei Dong, Division Chief of the Liaison Office of the PRC in Hong Kong.
The event co-ordinate, Francis Chan, also gave his speech.
That night, we had raffles and karaoke competition to raise funds for CCA. Bill Ling dressed up as our God of Fortune to dish out Lai Sees which each contained a Mark-6 ticket.
Hoi Kwan and Linda Lee were the 2 masters of ceremony and they did a good job.
Notwithstanding the short preparation time, we were able to sell 15 tables and around 180 members and guests attended the night. It was a fun-filled evening and was, in the main, a success.
It was a meaningful event in that many past chairmen of CCA did attend and show their support of CCA.
These included Spencer Lee, Felix Fong, Kenny Tam, Tony Tsoi, Dennis Chan and Laurent Lam. Kwan Li originally had indicated his participation but was unable to attend due to urgent engagement. He nevertheless paid for his ticket and donated prizes for the lucky draw. We are all very grateful to their support.
Albert Yeung, Sandy Law, Bill Ling, Tony Lit, Jamie Sih and many others played an active role and participated in the Organizing Committee. Hoi Kwan and Linda Lee renewed their teamwork as MCs of the evening.
The Karaoke competition at the Spring Dinner brought the night to its climax. This was both for fun and fund-raising. The idea was to allow those who attended the Dinner to pay for a friend or him or her to sing. There were eight candidates who were Albert Yeung, Linda Lee, Spencer Lee, Tony Lit, Tommy Lam, Rudy Io, Bill Ling and Janet de Silva, the President of CanCham and one of our guests.
Albert Yeung was the one who raised the biggest amount. According to the panel of judges, which consisted of David McNamara, John Oaten and David Amitage, all guests of honor, Linda Lee was the best performer.
Although Janet had the support of our executives, she just missed the top five by a thin margin but her “Puppy Love” was one of the favorites of the audience.
Linda Lee won the first prize in the lucky draw, and was gracious enough to donate her prize, an air ticket to Canada donated by Air Canada, for auction and our immediate Past Chairman, Laurent Lam, succeeded in his bid for the air ticket. Thank you to both Linda and Laurent for their support of CCA. Dragon Air donated the second price one return ticket to Kota Kinabalu which was won by Bill Ling.
